Memories of Damascus

In the fall of 1977, after having completed my primary school, Rawdat al-Ahdath, I moved to a secondary school named Al-Thaqafi, located in the Malki neighbourhood. I hated wearing the military uniforms we were required to wear, and could never come to terms with how short my hair was required to be. In this picture, I am standing to the right of to my supervisor who approved of neither the length of my hair nor the fact that I wore a jumper over my shirt instead of of the kaki jacket.
