Every Friday, I would drive my father to the mosque at noon. My son would often be with us too. My father preferred to go to a mosque near his home, but when Bashir al-Bani, the spiritual guide of our family, was scheduled to give the Friday sermon at the Grand Mosque of Damascus, we would always make sure we were there. This pictures was taken around 2001, since my son looks around 4. It was right after the prayer had ended, and I wanted to have a record of this event. Everyone complied, though my son doesn't seem to be very excited! By the end of the prayer he was usually more than ready to go back home. Even on Fridays, an official holiday, my father always was dressed in a suit, and the one he had on in this picture was one of my favorites.
