Lions & Lambs - an unauthorised biography of a Damascene reformer.
Dr. Muhammad Imady (al-'Imadi) was born in Damascus in 1930. As a sunni Western educated (married to an American) Damascene who belonged to a notable religious family and who never joined a political party, Imady was the least likely candidate to become an important official in post-1963 Syria. Yet, he served a total of 55 years, 25 of which as a minister; in fact he is the longest serving minister of economy in modern Syria. Lambs & Lions is the unauthorised biography of a Imady's struggle to strike the impossible balance between working to advance Syria's prosperity, and working for a regime that constituted the most important obstacle to the very reforms Imady strove to introduce.
